Why getting allergic to nuts reminds me of a break up

Loving nuts and becoming allergic to them is like having a great relationship that turns sour.

I loooooove eating nuts. As a snack, in my morning smoothie, after the gym. Nuts are great! But… About 6 months ago I became allergic. Crap. Now every time I eat nuts, my throat gets itchy and I cough for like 15 minutes. Up until a week ago, I continued eating dem-evil things even though I had a hard time afterwards.

A week ago, I had my first smoothie without my usual almonds and a spoon of peanut butter. And it was still great. No coughing ritual and drinking cups of water too sooth it.

I sat there contemplating life for 5 minutes and thinking how something so nice that you ate for years suddenly gives you a hard time.

It is like a relationship with a friend or a partner. Something that was so good for so long suddenly doesn’t make you as happy. You still love them but you know what you have to do. It takes time preparing for a big decision like that. But when you do get out, you realise that life isn’t as bad as you thought it would be. You are sad for a while but now nothing makes your throat hurt and you don’t cough anymore.

Some people take days, some people take years to make that decision. I guess, the point is — take as long as you need, but remember if something/someone makes you unhappy — the only way to change that is to remove them from the equation.

Probably the silliest thing I have ever written in my life.

Will have to re-read it when I get a craving for one of those delicious bliss balls with dates and nuts. Like a letter you write after a break up.
